Coming soon will be our very own webcam at www.pigbrother.net

You will be able to watch live coverage from the farrowing shed.

Completely addictive viewing - as we well know! Watch the mother prepare her nest ready for the arrival of her piglets before she settles down to give birth.

Then the drama really starts. Pigs do not normally need help when producing their offspring. It is amazing to see the newly born piglet fighting it’s way to one of the fourteen nipples for that all important first feed. Sibling rivalry is very strong and battles are common. Only the fittest will get the best position at the ‘milk bar’.

Our pigs farrow in plenty of warm straw; in winter they have additional heat, as young piglets feel the cold - just as a human baby would. The mother has plenty of space to move around as nature intended; this is the only way we are happy to breed from our sows. However it does mean that occasionally she may lie on a piglet. We place a heat lamp in a corner overhead to encourage the piglets to snooze in safety when they are not feeding.
